SHOW AND TELL MONDAY!!

This is a different sort of Show and Tell.....I will show and tell a little about another side of my life! For the past nearly 15 years, I have been a volunteer docent at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA.

I hold a position within our guild as chairman of the Special Events committee. Special Events are those where there is a guest speaker, often there to lecture on a newly published book and then a book signing afterward. People such as Henry Kissinger, Newt Gingrich, Dennis Hastert, Charlton Heston. Bob Hope, etc., etc, etc.....I could list hundreds!!

My Show and Tell involves a three day event this week called Ping Pong Diplomacy: The Rematch. Billed as a prologue to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing it is an historic sequel to the 1971 & 1972 table tennis events between the US and Chinese National Table Tennis Teams that became know as Ping Pong Diplomacy. There will be champs from both countries taking part in a series of table tennis exhibitions that will be held in the Nixon Library's spectacular replica of the White House East Room.

So far, I have spent approximately 20 hours on planning, recruiting docents to work, assigning duties, phone calls, emails and attending briefing meetings and the event doesn't start until tomorrow!! Total hours for the 3 days of events.....20 more!! This is a time consuming, exasperating, fun, enjoyable, hard-working job that I often complain about but absolutely love doing!!

Please do notice the pen I am using.....PINK, from Make Mine Pink......my other love is never far away!!

I still have work to do so better get at it. Enjoy your week, I will and then I will fall on the sofa for a rest this weekend! Hope you have enjoyed seeing another side of my life!

Georgia,
How facinating that is! I voted for Richard Nixon when I was old enough to vote. It was my first election and I have always been a big fan. Thanks for sharing.

Georgia, How exciting! You lead a double life--tablecloth expert and Richard Nixon Library docent. I hope you'll post more about how the event went!
